About the event

Urban and Regional Vehicle Access Regulations (UVARs) are a vital part of the strategy to achieve clean, safe and sustainable urban mobility. The focus on reducing pollution levels has led in recent years to the introduction of Low Emission Zones or LEZs. The workshop will outline key issues related to the lack of clarity and uniformity of physical road signs relating to LEZs and present an overview of the LEZs signs currently in use in Europe. The aim will be to initiate a discussion and generate consensus towards a common European approach to address the fragmentation of LEZs road signs. The workshop will also address the signs for Zero Emission Zones or ZEZs that are emerging as a new type of UVARs.

The workshop will focus on the following aspects:

  • Overview of typologies of UVARs, current practices and factors affecting the complexity & understanding of road signs
  • Overview of LEZs & ZEZs road signs across Europe
  • Presentation of the work of the UNECE Group of Experts on Road Signs and Signals
  • An interactive session for stakeholders to propose recommendations for a common approach to address the fragmentation in road signs related to LEZs
